Fixed pitch helicopter RETURN

A fixed pitch rotor design is one where the blades cannot feather independently, although in a fixed pitch main rotor the blades can feather as a unit giving cyclic pitch control.

Fixed pitch rotors are much more robust than collective pitch rotor designs, and they have fewer moving parts, however, they are much slower to respond to the demanded changes in thrust as the whole rotor must speed up or slow down, unlike a collective pitch rotor, which just varies the blade pitch.
